The following courses take place at The Civility School.  Each course is comprised of eight one-hour classes.

  • Preschool Manners, Ages 4-5

    Topics include:  Greetings (eye contact, speaking clearly, using the other person's
    name, and handshaking), Magic Words and Magic Silence, Telephone Manners
    ("Mom's on the phone!"), Play Date and Party Behavior (including gift issues and
    thank you notes), Sharing and Avoiding the 2 B's and 2 T's (Bossiness, Boasting,
    Teasing, and Tattling), Good Sportsmanship, Behavior in Public, Helping Behaviors,
    Setting a Simple Place Setting and Dining Manners.

  • Modern Manners, Ages 5-8

    Topics include:  Behavior in the Classroom, on the Playground, and in the Lunchroom, Good Sportsmanship, Conversation Skills and The Handshake, Telephone Etiquette, Guest and Host Expectations, Writing Thank You Notes, Behavior in Public, Communicating with People with Special Needs, Helping Behaviors, American Table Setting and Dining Manners

  • Modern Manners, Ages 9 - 12

    Topics include:  Concepts of Respect, Civility and Empathy, Advanced Conversation Skills (including effective nonverbal communication), Public Speaking Skills, Written Communication Beyond the Thank You Letter, Borrowing and Lending, Showing Respect for Parents and Siblings, Babysitting Etiquette, Personal Grooming, Electronic Etiquette, Table Setting and Dining Manners (American tradition with introduction to various global customs).

  • Preparing To Launch, Ages 13-16

    Topics include:  Discussion of Personal Goals and the Tricks of a Civil Society, Job
    Skills (writing a resume, a cover letter, asking for references, interviewing,
    on-the-job behavior), Entertaining (composing a guest list, creating a budget,
    timing of invitations, and being a good host and good guest), Advanced Written
    Communication (letters of inquiry, sympathy notes, etc...) and Spoken
    Communication (introductions, how to start a conversation, etc...), Electronic
    Etiquette, Respectful Disagreement, Fine Restaurant Dining and Tipping.
